• Question: Why did you choose to work in a cancer research lab, insead of a different one?

      Well the first lab I worked in was actually a diabetes/metabolic disorder research lab – this was in my final year of university.

      I knew I wanted to work on something disease-based. It seemed like the best (or most useful) way to apply an interest in biology.

      Also I’ve had an interest in genetics since I was really young (before I was 10, I think) and evolution. Cancer seemed the most logical choice then – it’s a genetic disease (not always inherited, but its roots are in the DNA) and basically evolution inside the body, which I can go into in a bit more detail if you’d like…

      I happened to find an advertisement for a PhD that involved some multi-lab experience in the first year so I applied and was lucky enough to get the place. Here I am 🙂
