It was a spur of the moment decision. I’m not a massive science communication enthusiast. i usually just get on with my work and hope that it will make enough of a statement.

I also thought it might look good on my CV but now that I’m here I’m really enjoying it. Hope that comes across from the answers.

Someone in my lab mentioned it and said it was only for post-docs. Then I looked up the entry rules and it wasn’t, so I entered!
Also one of my twitter friends applied and it sounded like it would be fun.

      Which it certainly is!

Also I’m trying to gain science communication experience and this was the perfect opportunity. I’d love to inspire some young people to stick with science for their future studies (am I managing to do that or just putting everyone off?!?)

      Hi nathanlee,

I have a really bad Starbucks habit, and thought I could skim off some of the prize money to support it 😉

Actually, I was really impressed with the I’m A Scientist event back in March, and wanted to see what it was like first hand. I also have a crazy idea that students should have the chance to see that scientists are ordinary people!
