Hi Rebecca, We had to answer this question on our profiles and i guess you’ve re-asked me because I didn’t answer in a very personal manner (fair enough!). I’m a medical doctor and a scientist so I guess I have favourite part(s) of my job(s). From the medical perspective I love it when I get to confidently reassure somebody who has been really worried about their health that everything’s going to be OK. As a scientist I love watching white blood cells move about and eat each other down the microsope. There’s something skin-crawlingly creepy (but neat) about all these highly motile (mobile) cells moving around inside our blood vessels and organs…..

      Hi rebecca,

That’s a surprisingly tough question, as what makes my job so great is everything that it involves. That said, I really enjoy doing this sort of thing – talking with people about the work I do and what it means – and I still love those moments when I really “get” something new – it’s as if a new window has opened in my mind, and my perspective on the world changes.

Ooh. Working with people, meeting people who also like my ideas and theories, proving a hunch – all generate a buzz

      Hi guys,

I like a lot of things about working in the lab. We don’t have to be smart every day! So it’s more fun when there’s a special occasion to dress up for.

We keep our own time; there’s no fixed schedule to stress about.

Getting a result that makes sense/explains something/provides the last piece of a puzzle – that’s always excellent.
