      You could do, kt1996, yes.

Not all cervical cancer is caused by the papilloma virus.
Like many other cancers, it can just be spontaneous.

Having the virus can increase the risk of the cancer developing – again though, having the virus does not mean you will *definitely* get the cancer; it increases risk.

This is why it’s important to
      – get tested for STDs regularly while you are sexually active
      – practice safe sex! (condoms can stop most infections very effectively)
      – take precautions like the vaccine if you can
      – go for smear tests (cervical cancer check) when invited

In the UK the number of deaths from cervical cancer is very, very low compared to other places, where it is still a very serious cause of death, killing many women.

We have good services here and the vaccine should reduce the indidence even further.
I hope we can offer it to boys too someday; men catch HPV too and spread it so if they are vaccinated that would offer even more protection.

Don’t let STDs put you off sex if you’re ready for it; just be sensible, clued-up, safe, and look after yourself!
