It’s probably not as different as you might think. There are lots of opportunities over here – probably more than in the UK for scientists. People sometimes come across as more ambitious here than they do in the UK. And there’s much more of a “can do” attitude here – and much less of the whinging that you sometimes come across in the UK. On the other hand – and this is surprising – there is more formality, bureaucracy and snobbery here than I ever came across in the UK – people do tend to decide whether you are worth talking to depending on how much you earn, which is not a nice trait!
