      Hi elmo97,

You must be heading for being the most prolific question-asker 🙂

Yes, I work with teams all the time. Often, I collaborate with scientists who are experts in areas where I’m not so knowledgeable – so we end up complementing each other.

Science and technology are so complex these days, that few people can know enough to do well on their own. Plus, all the exciting stuff happens when you are exposed to new ideas from different people!

      Every day 🙂

Our lab has about 10 people in it at the moment, though as students graduate, people go off to have babies, new people start… it’s quite a dynamic environment (changes a lot).

I like working with other people, it’s better than being by myself, though sometimes I do that too.

It’s one of my favourite things about labs actually, especially this one, as it’s quite open-plan and all the different groups can see each other.

We have a team in my lab of about 6 individuals and although it’s often difficult to see eye to eye with everyone it definitely is a positive thing overall.

This is a key question for working in the hospital because there are so many people that have to work together to sort patients out. They call this multi-disciplinary team-working. In the lab you usually just have different ages of scientist in the hospital you have: nurses, physios, occupational therapists, social workers, dieticians, pharmacists, radiographers, chiropodists, psychologists, doctors (various), scientists (biochemists, pathologists and haematologists). Team-working is a very important skill and I would say it is essential in medicine and highly desirable in science…(You have to be an incredible genius to do it all yourself!)

Hi elmo97 – you are busy! Yes, I do work as part of a bigger team which includes safety officers and auditors because I work for the Chief Environmental and Safety Officer for the Royal Navy. Ultimately, I work for an even bigger team, the Royal Navy and we all support the operational requirements we have overseas.:)
